Every other post I read says we're all about to be asked for payslips just to have a flutter. How much of this is real and how much is Facebook hysteria?

Reality's somewhere in the middle — a lot of the checking happens quietly in the background using data you'll never see, and the formal document requests tend to kick in at higher spend levels. The every-punter-gets-means-tested stuff is overcooked.

Best advice is boring: keep recent documents handy, don't deposit what you can't evidence, and if a check lands, deal with it calmly. Panicking about rumours helps nobody.
